Harris County – If you get charged with a moving violation such as speeding, running a red light, stop sign, following too closely, involved in a motor vehicle accident, etc., you may qualify to have the ticket/citation dismissed. When you have qualified and have paid the court costs, the court will assess a fine but will defer the imposition of the judgment for 90 days to allow you to successfully complete the driver’s safety course. Then the court will dismiss the charge/ticket/fine.

The Driver Education and Safety program at TDLR is comprised of the licensing and regulation of businesses known as Driver Education Schools, TDLR Driver Education programs, Defensive Driving Schools, their Course Providers and Instructors. Driver Education provides the basic skills and training asked by law to provide the knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare people for their written and practical tests to operate a vehicle in Texas. Defensive Driving (sometimes known as “defensive driving”) schools are geared to improve a driver’s knowledge, perception and attitude about driving. The schools shall by law to offer curriculum that meets the standards asked by law in Chapter 1001, Texas Education Code. TDLR’s objective is to make sure that the schools, course providers, and instructors are qualified to develop and offer the courses and that the courses meet the asked standards.
