Oceana County, Michigan District Court may refer traffic offenses for a BDIC, basic driver improvement course for traffic ticket/citations in their court. The district court sometimes orders the offenders for a specific traffic violation such as speeding or as an option for a court agreed deferral of a ticket/citation fine. The State of Michigan sometimes sends letters to drivers license holders who have too many driving points for traffic tickets/citations on their driving record or driver’s license number.
The Oceana County bdic basic driver improvement course can remove points from you driver’s license history or record upon completion. This is done completely online in your spare time. You may register now and start it when you have time. There’s no particular time frame involved.
We will notify the Michigan Department of State electronically that you have passed the course. The Michigan Department of State (SOS) will not add any points from the ticket to your driving record and will not show the ticket information to insurance companies.

Michigan Points For Traffic Convictions*
Six Points:
- Manslaughter, negligent homicide, or other felony involving use of a motor vehicle.
- Operating under the influence of liquor or drugs.
- Failing to stop and give identification at the scene of a crash.
- Reckless driving.
- Unlawful bodily alcohol content of 0.08 or more.
- Refusal to take a chemical test.
- Fleeing or eluding a police officer.
Four Points:
- Drag racing.
- Operating while visibly impaired.
- Under age 21 with any bodily alcohol content.
- 16 mph or more over the legal speed limit.
- Failure to yield/show due caution for emergency vehicles.
Three Points:
- Careless driving.
- Disobeying a traffic signal or stop sign or improper passing.
- 11 through 15 mph over the legal speed limit.
- Failure to stop at railroad crossing.
- Failure to stop for a school bus or for disobeying a school crossing guard.
Two Points:
- 10 mph or less over the legal speed limit.
- Open alcohol container in vehicle.
- All other moving violations of traffic laws.
